Thank you for your interest in signing up for our Junior Nordic Ski Program! Junior Nordic is a nine-week program for elementary-aged (kinder-5th grade) youth. Skiers will gain an appreciation for being outside, learn new ski skills/build upon previous ski experience, all while having fun with others doing the same! Our goal is to develop a healthy, enjoyable, lifelong connection to skiing and being active outdoors. Skiers will be grouped based on a combination of age, ability, and technique (skate or classic), and will be lead by an exuberant cast of coaches (sometimes in costume).
KEY DATES TO KNOW
Gear Checkout: Sunday, December 15th, 2024
Season: January 5th to March 2nd, 2025
Practices: Sundays, 1:30-3:00pm (locations vary depending on snow conditions, including lack thereof!)
COSTS
Program Fee: $100 (includes an annual membership to the Juneau Nordic Ski Club!)
Ski Gear: Skiers are asked to choose one technique to focus on over the season, either skate* or classic. Rentals are available for $65 (includes boots, poles, and skis).
*Skate option is available to skiers in 2nd grade and older, and must have classic skied for at least one season prior. Classic skiing is fundamental in developing an understanding of basic ski skills such as balance and weight shift.
Eaglecrest Trail Pass: Unfortunately, the JNSC no longer has an agreement with Eaglecrest allowing us to subsidize the cost of Nordic trail passes for our skiers. Our program typically utilizes these trails a couple sessions each season (sometimes more depending on sea level snow conditions) and thus ask each family be responsible for purchasing their own day or season Nordic pass, which can be added on to any season Alpine pass.
The Juneau Nordic Ski Club's Junior Nordic program is a recipient of the city's Youth Activities Grant and, as such, is partially funded by the citizens of the City and Borough of Juneau through sales tax revenue.
